Adult Education Department

TITLE: Youth Case Manager (Full-Time)

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education

Summary of the Position:

The Youth Case Manager works as a member of the Adult Education Program staff to support the students enrolled in the Adult Education HiSET Program. Serving as an advocate for each youth, the Case Manager works through classroom instruction and in individual meetings to assist students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges.

The Case Manager also delivers content from the newly designed social-emotional learning curriculum, empowering students to create a great life – academic, professional, and social – while honing their study skills. Focusing on 8 strategies to becoming a successful student (accepting personal responsibility, discovering self-motivation, mastering self-management, employing interdependence, gaining self-awareness, adopting lifelong learning, developing emotional intelligence, and believing in themselves), youth will learn how to transition from being successful students to being successful career professionals.

The Case Manager can expect a caseload of approximately 15 youth per cohort and will be available to serve additional students who have already exited the program. A heavy emphasis of the position will be placed on administrative responsibilities in the front and back end of the program – recruiting and executing the admissions process and recording and submitting case notes/follow up for internal and external reporting. This may also include being the point-of-contact for external funding representatives (WIOA, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

● Previous experience in education, counseling, human services, or a related field.

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with students, staff, and external partners; ability to gain trust and respect from youth to develop lasting relationships.

● A “can-do” and proactive attitude, recognizing when work needs to be done without having to be told.

● Strong organizational skills and an attention to detail, including tracking and adhering to ongoing deadlines.

● Willingness to develop and implement new processes and procedures that increase the department’s efficiency and productivity.

Job Responsibilities:

● Administer the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant program and any additional grant opportunities, ensuring compliance and efficient utilization of funding for the service provided.

● Serve as the front line of communication for all prospective students, their families, and any referral agencies when it comes to the Admissions Process and general program offerings for the Education Department.

● Maintain regular communication (monthly) with all current and former students (for a period of up to 1 year past exit).

● Assist youth in establishing boundaries and correcting inappropriate behavior.

● Serve as the instructor for the SEL component to the HiSET program, delivering a weekly class based on success strategies.

● Maintain a network of support services for all students, making referrals as needed for additional and long-term assistance.

● Coordinate and provide support services to students as they transition to next steps (career/educational).

● Serve as the HiSET testing administrator and scheduler, supporting students in scheduling tests, seeking accommodations, and submitting testing materials.

● Remain abreast of current best practices in the realm of Adult Education, including but not limited to mental health advocacy, trauma-informed care, and appreciative advising.

● Other duties as required and in agreement with the Director.

Schedule & Hours: Monday – Friday; 35 hrs/week. Opportunities for some remote work may be available

Salary: $60,000 yearly

About Wellspring’s Adult Education Program (HiSET)

The HiSET program at Wellspring works in partnership with MASSHIRE and is generously funded through the WIOA grant. Wellspring has been fortunate to receive this funding for several years and the program has been in operation for over 35 years. We attract students to our program who have demands on their schedule (need a compressed schedule), have experienced high levels of anxiety in the post-COVID classroom, and whose academic aspirations align more closely with our program offerings.

The majority of our students enter college or certificate/trade programs directly after graduation. As a part of our funding guidelines, we track students for 1 full year post-exit, so it is imperative that strong relationship development is inherent in our work.

As a member of Wellspring’s community, students have access to other critical services that our organization provides like transportation, clothing, and food. Our primary goal is to help these young people feel like they belong to a supportive community that is dedicated to helping them achieve their goals.

Interested applicants should email a resume and cover letter to Jessie Pilewski, the Director of Adult Education (jessie@wellspringmultiservice.org)

Committed to attracting and retaining a diverse staff, Wellspring will honor your experiences, perspectives and unique identity. Together, our community strives to create and maintain working and learning environments that are inclusive, equitable and welcoming.
