Welcome to the Wellspring ESOL Program!
Our program currently offers 3 levels of English language learning, based on your level of proficiency at the start of the semester. As language skill gains are reached, students will have the ability to progress through the various levels.
Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Weymouth High School. Students who are not immediately placed in a class have the opportunity to join open language workshops on Wednesday evenings. These sessions not only provide an opportunity for learners to practice their English, but they feature weekly themes and opportunities for community-building. Students who attend these workshops are given priority placement in a classroom when a seat becomes available.
The ESOL Program begins in September and runs through December. Classes resume in January and end in May for the summer break.
NEW this year, a cohort of students will be selected to participate in a summer session that is focused on using technology through our collaboration with Tech Goes Home. Students who participate regularly throughout the Fall and Spring semesters are invited to attend our summer session and will receive a Chromebook and 1-year of internet access donated by Tech Goes Home.
The ESOL Program welcomes students on a rolling basis. Traditional entry points are in the Fall and Winter, but should seats become available, you may be able to join a class throughout the year. Again, we STRONGLY encourage all interested students to join our open workshops on Wednesday evenings. Our admissions process is straightforward:
Complete Inquiry Form: Interested students should submit a completed ESOL Inquiry Form which can be found on our website. You will be prompted to schedule your language assessment upon completion.
Language Assessment & Initial Consultation: You will join members of the ESOL team for a language assessment. During this time, we will ask you to look at images and describe as much as you can in English. You will then sit with a team member for an informal interview where we can learn more about you and your goals.
Program Acceptance: Depending on your language assessment, you may be placed in a level 1-3 class. Students are selected based on the number of seats available. Some students may be waitlisted and asked to join the Wednesday evening workshops until a regular seat becomes available. Every student will receive an email confirming their placement in a class or on the waitlist shortly after the initial consultation.
Orientation: During the 1st week of classes, you can expect ongoing orientation to help you acclimate to our program. We will also assist you with other supportive services during this time to help you be successful in other areas of your life (SNAP/Food Benefits, Housing Assistance, etc.).
We are committed to accommodating your needs and helping you achieve your goals. We look forward to supporting you on your educational journey at Wellspring.
